So I've been rendering fat. Initially it was out of curiosity, and now I'm discovering there's quite a market for lard.
Quickly:
--Pig fat, once rendered (boiled/melted and strained) is lard.
--Beef fat, also called suet, once rendered (boiled/melted and strained) is tallow.

BerkshirePigs
We recently got some Berkshire weaner [a pig that has just been weaned] pigs, rather than our usual
Duroc-Hampshire crosses. Of course, I'm a sucker for the cute factor of
all our animals, but these guys are extra lovable. They'd only been at
the farm a few days in these photos, and we had them separated from the
larger pigs to they would have plenty of access to food. They were
still a bit skittish, but I gave them a few cracked or otherwise
un-saleable eggs, and was able to get close.

Charmed
My new LOVELY house in Eugene. It's charming through and through.
And,
the garden delights me every day as I slowly discover that we not only
have lots of space, but cherries, plums, apples, raspberries, rosemary,
roses, lilacs, a butterfly bush, and several raised beds!

| Well isn't that a nice back porch. |
And, there's a shed/studio out back, where I'll be able to set up my sewing machines, spinning wheel, etc. There are even poppies tastefully painted on the walls inside. Perfect.
